Lin Yusi was born in Guangdong in 1978. In 1998 he was graduated from the High School Affiliated to Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and then the Department of Chinese Traditional Painting, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2002. In 2006, he obtained a Master degree from the Department of Chinese Traditional Painting, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The sculptures that we present here for exhibition were originally images that Lin painted on scattered traditional Chinese painting papers known as “xuan paper”.

Historically, what shapes the uniqueness of Chinese art form is its effort in circumambulating the sentiments of human being in a delightful manner. The whole idea of the exhibited pieces is to bring the traditional Chinese painting images into a 3 dimensional sculptures so as to allow the viewers to perceive the creations both in the 2-D and the 3-D forms, and use a new methodology to present the traditional Chinese art images. One sculpture shows the idea of Buddha's self-sacrificial tribute to the tiger, and the other, sources its origin from an artwork in the Song Dynasty of China painted by the famous calligrapher, Mi Fu, which shows the ambulant nature of human and the rock. The person who stands at the clouds’ edge is a frequent theme of Lin's painting, stemmed from his attraction to loneliness. All these works are attempts to modernise classical tales, by adding into it a few humorous elements.
